Overlooking the north-western coast of Elba Island, Marciana Marina is one of the most elegant and pleasant villages to visit on the island. Small in size but full of charm, it captivates visitors with its scenic waterfront promenade, the marina, colourful houses facing the sea and an authentic atmosphere that still reflects its long maritime tradition.

Visitors to Marciana Marina on Elba Island will find a well-kept village that is lively yet relaxed, perfect for a walk through narrow streets and sea views, for dinner along the waterfront or for a day exploring the beaches of the western coast. It is an ideal stop for those who want to discover a different side of Elba, made of tradition, landscapes and timeless beauty.

Where Marciana Marina is located

Marciana Marina lies in the north-western part of Elba Island, at the foot of Monte Capanne, the island’s highest peak. The village overlooks a sheltered bay and developed around its harbour, which has always been the centre of local life.

It is located about 30 km from Portoferraio, 15 km from Marina di Campo and 10 km from Marciana. Its position makes it a perfect base for exploring the western side of Elba and some of its most beautiful beaches.

A seaside village with a long maritime tradition

The history of Marciana Marina is deeply connected to the sea. In the past, the inhabitants of the nearby hill village of Marciana used to descend to the coast to work in fishing and trade. Over time, the small landing place developed into a real fishing village that has preserved its identity even with the growth of tourism.

The historical symbol of the village is the Appiani Tower, built in the 16th century to defend the coast from pirate attacks. Even today the tower dominates the waterfront skyline and is one of the most photographed landmarks in Marciana Marina.

What to see in Marciana Marina

Although it is one of the smallest municipalities in Tuscany, Marciana Marina offers charming views, monuments and characteristic corners worth discovering. The best way to appreciate the village is simply to wander around slowly and let its atmosphere guide you.

The waterfront promenade

The Marciana Marina seafront is the heart of the village. Here you will find bars, restaurants, ice-cream shops and cafés overlooking the harbour, creating a very pleasant setting especially at sunset. It is the perfect place for a stroll, an aperitif with a sea view or simply to watch the boats coming and going.

During summer the promenade becomes one of the liveliest parts of the village, while still maintaining its relaxed and intimate character.

Cotone is one of the most characteristic places to see in Marciana Marina and offers particularly evocative views, especially in the softer light of the evening.
